PREREQUISITES
|
There
are none for native English speakers. Non-native speakers will need
to have an upper intermediate English level to enter the program.
English language teaching takes place in many different contexts,
for example, locally and internationally, language schools, companies,
immigration centers, churches, volunteer organizations, private
tutoring and mainstream education at all levels. Obviously, some
organizations require professional teachers while others do not.
The reason for this is that the majority of English taught focuses
on conversation skills and not on grammar. The enormous demand for
conversational English teachers has created opportunities for those
who would not normally have had a chance to pursue a career in teaching.
While university students with undergraduate degrees are preferred
by employers, consideration is also given to applicants that possess
relevant life experiences or an aptitude for teaching. However,
speaking English does not necessarily mean you can teach it and
foreign employers are well aware of this. For this reason, almost
all employers will ask for a TEFL certificate--even if you have a
degree. |
